5 ways Reading Books Changed My Life!

When was the last time you read a book or magazine article? If you're one of the many people who have yet to get into the habit of reading regularly, you are missing out on a lot!

I make it a point to read as many books as possible. It doesn't always have to be business or personal development books. A good rom com may be just what you need. Besides, reading helps you develop your vocabulary, understanding, and critical thinking.  It also teaches you to write, a skill that can be applied in different areas.

Let's discuss 5 unexpected things reading did for me!

 Benefits of Reading Books

Between the pages of a book, you can immerse yourself in another era and culture.  It is often said that books are like a window into another life which is true from my experience. Let's look at some of the benefits of reading a book:

Reading helps you have a healthy brain.

Just as physical exercise helps keep you healthy, treading has a fair share of health it adds to your brain. Reading helps to slow down dementia. Each time you decide to pick up a book with your cup of tea, you can gladly say you are giving your brain a dose of daily exercise.

Reading helps to reduce stress.

Imagine reducing your stress level by doing something so easy for ten minutes maximum. Nice, right? Reading helps in reducing stress. A study by Sussex University states, stress drops by 68% after someone reads for just six minutes. A beautiful book carries you to another man's life where your stress doesn't exist.

Reading helps you have a better sleep.

Sadly, our sleep is suffering due to the hustle and bustle of daily life. The lights from our phones reduce our melatonin levels. We always have to check “one last email” to wake our brains up when we should be relaxing.  Get a book and read instead of checking one last email, or social media before bed. This will give you a restful night and you will be grateful the next day waking up feeling relaxed.

You develop a reading culture for your kids.

Do you love reading? Is it important to you? It will likely be important to your kids. It has been researched and proven that parents are the first teachers to their children and have a heavy impact on how they develop character career, and behaviour-wise.

Reading to your children or letting them see you read develops an appreciation of the habit in their minds making them slowly become readers too.  When you as a parent have a reading culture, it won't be long until you see your kid picking up a book about their favourite animals and other kids' stories.

 Reading makes you an empath

Reading helps you see the world from another man's eye, not your own. You escape your life and live with another man living in your imagination. This gives you a chance to walk in another person's shoes which in turn makes you more empathic.  If you ever feel you are getting too cold towards situations and people, pick up a book and find your heartbeats in another person's shoes.

Conclusion

There are a lot of amazing books out there. With the benefits which you now know about reading, grab a book and have the time of your life. What genre of books would you like to try first? Tell us in the comments. If you are a big reader, recommend a book for your new friends!
